The Future of the Accordion…
Dear Accordion lovers, with pleasure, I want to share the latest news about the instrument we all love so much, the Accordion!
As you may know, the Golden Era of the accordion was after the Second World War.
Due to the largest Exodus in the last hundred years, European music tradition traveled with each emigrant to the Americas, Asia, and Australia.
Being the accordion, the most traditional and portable instrument to travel with, in small and medium sizes, thousands of accordions also migrate, looking for new homes in dozens of countries around the world.
Castelfidardo, Ancona, Italy, was the country region with the most accordion artisans. Being situated next to the Mediterranean Sea, with a stable climate, a seaport, and in the heart of Italy, it became the Accordion city of the world!
Italy, eager to rebuild its infrastructure and revive its traditional culture, recognized that the accordion was gaining popularity in various countries, particularly the United States.
Therefore, the local government was able to provide and facilitate the opening of new accordion factories, resulting in a large number of brands.
Before 1950, accordion production was primarily for local European demand. From 1950 to 1965, Italy produced around 200,000 accordions, which were exported to where new immigrants were creating their new lives.
Between 1965 and 1975, an additional 100,000 were produced.
Between 1975 and 1985, tens of thousands more accordions were produced to meet the demand.
50% of all these productions were exported to the US alone.
After the production in 1985, Castelfidardo began to experience a decline in demand, prompting major brands to restructure not only their internal operations and business models, but also through the acquisition of smaller brands and mergers to consolidate production and business activities,
like Scandalli.
A few others started for the first time, as Beltuna.
Between 1990 and 2010, a large number of factories closed their operations due to reduced demand, which was subsequently covered by larger and long-established brands.
The demand decrease was due to the emergence of new music styles that did not include the accordion sound, as well as the reduced, and often, the lack of resources from governments and private investors to fund music initiatives among children and adolescents.
When I began searching for an accordion brand to represent in my new business, Accordions by De Vincenzo, it took me almost a year of research to finally decide to choose Scandalli.
Scandalli was founded in 1900 by Silvio Scandalli,
employing hundreds of workers under the same roof. Undergoing several transformations and family ownerships, while consistently striving for the highest quality design and performance. For me was the right decision.
Scandalli is the world's top-level accordion factory.
It is very well known for the creation of the best accordion in the world since 1950, the Super VI!
Formally, I am an autorized Scandalli dealer (boutique) since 2013.
That year, I was trained by the factory on all aspects related to the building of an accordion, parts, sound tuning, dynamic performance, and overall quality control.
Since then, I have gained insight into the accordion industry from the inside, and I can attest that today, the accordion is the ninth most popular musical instrument used worldwide, ranking #1 in traditional European folk music, as well as in Mexican, Colombian, and Brazilian music.
For American Jazz and oldies, the accordion remains an exotic and unique instrument, adding a special texture and emotion to the music.
For Tango, the Bandoneon is #1, a unique and distinctive sound that can be recognized in just a few phrases or music bars.

For several decades, the concert accordion has been featured in symphony orchestras; several virtuosos have presented it as a solo instrument, performing some of the world's greatest compositions.
